Gnomon: How does it feel to have won such a prestigious prize at the CG Student Awards 2015?
Cheyne Hessler: I'm really honored to have won a Bootcamp Placement in the Next-Gen Gaming at the CG Student Awards. I'm still in disbelief that I have actually won the category among other great artists!
What has your Gnomon experience been like so far, and how has it been helping you to create an award-winning portfolio of work?
Gnomon has been an incredible experience and opportunity for me to grow as a 3D artist. Being surrounded by other students and industry professionals at school has helped me build my portfolio through consistent feedback and advice – built on the understanding of fundamentals and ideas that make great quality work.
What are you looking forward to most about the internship opportunity?
The internship opportunity gives me the chance to see and learn what a real production pipeline is like in the gaming industry. I'm looking forward for the opportunity to work among an experienced team and to learn from that experience.
Were there any other students in the Awards that you found particularly inspiring? If so, who and why?
I'd have to say that I found the work of my fellow students who submitted from Gnomon to be particularly inspiring. It sounds biased but it's true. The consistency and quality of their work has given me something to aspire to since day one of my Gnomon education.
What are your hopes for the future – are there any dream studios that you'd like to work for?
There are so many artists and studios that I look up to, that continue to inspire and amaze me. My hope for the future is to be surrounded by incredible people that love making video games, inspire each other, and help me to continue to grow as an artist.
I would have to say Naughty Dog would be my studio of choice to aspire to. The way they tell their stories and breathe life into their characters and games is nothing short of incredible!
