The first Gnomon Live Event to be held outside of the US will take place in Melbourne, Australia, on March 4-6, 2016
Gnomon Live Australia is a unique opportunity for content creators in Australia to learn from some of the biggest names in California working in digital production for the entertainment industry. The event is geared towards those working in film, games, TV, commercials, virtual reality, and 3D digital visualization to learn from industry leaders through Gnomon's network of talent. The program is curated by Alex Alvarez, founder and director of Gnomon, and produced by Ideas on Design.
In 2015, Alvarez curated the highly successful Entertainment Design Masterclass for Ideas on Design during Melbourne International Design Week. Following the success of the Masterclass, and after multiple requests to bring Gnomon back to Australia, this March will bring the first official Gnomon Live Australia event.
The first-class lineup of LA-based artists will share their strategic thinking and practices developed in some of the industry’s most highly regarded studios, including Blizzard Entertainment, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Infinity Ward, Bad Robot Productions, and Luma Pictures. Attendees will have the chance to share ideas and learn techniques from artists who have contributed to Academy Award-winning films, high-grossing video games, commercials, and TV productions. Speaker credits include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar, World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo III, Call of Duty, Pirates of the Caribbean, Captain America, and Frozen, among others.
With skills across a wide range of production roles, including matte painting, CG supervision, environment creation, character modeling, compositing, and art direction, the speakers will demonstrate techniques in a variety of software to demonstrate how to improve both efficiency and the quality of creative content. Encouraging participation, they will share their techniques, workflows, and experiences working in teams of advanced practitioners and with award-winning directors.
“With a mission to support the development of our creative community we have a long history presenting events that share the expertise of talented and experienced industry practitioners,” said Kristin McCourtie, Director of Ideas on Design. “Recognized as the benchmark of computer graphics education, it is a privilege to be working with Alex Alvarez and Gnomon to present this exceptional program for entertainment artists of our region.”
The event will be held at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne on March 4th to March 6th, 2016. The event will feature a weekend of live demos and talks, plus outdoor cinema screenings, insights from leading Australian studios, music, and the chance to meet up with local and international artists.
