This year's celebration of the world's best ZBrush work will feature 13 Gnomon graduates and instructors among the speakers and award nominees
The stars of the ZBrush world will gather at Gnomon – School of Visual Effects, Games + Animation this month for the 2016 ZBrush Summit, Pixologic's international user event, while tens of thousands more will tune in online. But did you know that no fewer than 13 Gnomon graduates and instructors will be taking part?
Gnomon for the third time this year, ZBrush Summit is a celebration of
cutting-edge work created using
Pixologic's digital sculpting software. Taking part at the school's Hollywood campus
from September 30th to October 2nd, the event will feature presentations and
workshops from leading ZBrush artists – including sessions from nearby
Walt Disney Animation Studios,
Naughty Dog and Blizzard Entertainment – along with the prestigious annual
kicks off with a session from Avatar and Star Wars: Episode I veteran
Andrew Cawrse, founder of AnatomyTools.com,
and a former speaker at Gnomon's Masters of Anatomy event, followed by a
session on Walt Disney Animation Studios' asset development pipeline that
Gnomon Workshop instructor Zack Petroc
and former Gnomon students Dylan Ekren
and Suzan Kim.
The day closes with a talk on Naughty Dog's character
pipeline on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End that features two previous Gnomon
speakers: Senior Shading Artist Yibing Jiang and Character Artist Adam Scott,
both of whom took part in the school's popular
Headspace: An Evening With Naughty Dog event last year.
The following day, Blizzard Entertainment 3D Environment and
Set Supervisor – and Gnomon Workshop instructor –
Seth Thompson will be providing a fascinating glimpse into the studio's
archives, showing off never-before-seen models from over 15 years of Blizzard's
game cinematics. And on the Sunday,
Glauco Longhi, a veteran of multiple Gnomon speaker events, will be providing practical advice in a
talk on Sculpting Secondary Forms and Analyzing References.
All of the sessions will be followed by interviews with the
speakers conducted by Pixologic veteran, school instructor and general
And Gnomon's involvement with the
Summit doesn't end with the speakers: at the
ZBrush Awards, designed to honor the best digital sculptors in the world today,

has been nominated in two categories, while the elite group of artists selected
to take part in the Summit's live
Sculpt-Off contest include his fellow
Luis Carrasco, plus
former Gnomon students
and Jared Krichevsky.
The 2016 ZBrush Summit takes place at Gnomon's Hollywood campus from Friday September 30th to Sunday October 2nd. Aside from the workshops, the event is free to attend, although you'll need to have registered online in advance. If you can't make it to Los Angeles in person, the event will also be broadcast free online.
