Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games + Animation is proud to reveal this year’s student and alumni finalists selected by the prestigious Rookies Awards.

Founded by Andrew McDonald and Alwyn Hunt – both industry professionals with over 11 years of experience working in visual effects at some of the world’s top studios – The Rookies were created to discover and showcase outstanding talent emerging from schools around the world. Formerly known as the CG Student Awards, McDonald and Hunt have offered 74 paid internships and over $900,000 in prizes since 2009 through their awards.

The Rookies 2017 received 8,725 submitted digital projects created by 2,752 students from more than 80 countries worldwide in competition for Rookie of the Year, Game of the Year, and Film of the Year titles. We are proud to see so many of Gnomon students and alumni shortlisted as finalists:

Scholarship Finalists

Finalists have been selected from thousands of global entries by a panel of judges featuring 62 experts of their creative and technical fields. Points have been awarded for creative skills, technical skills, presentation, variety of skills, complexity, raw talent, and employment potential.

“This year was the most difficult year for our judges selecting finalists,” The Rookies Co-Founder, Andrew McDonald commented. “The quality and diversity of projects was truly spectacular and as always it’s been encouraging to see so many schools pushing their students to create production quality projects.”

Judging is now in stage three of the voting process, with winners due to be announced on July 7th, 2017. Stay tuned to www.therookies.co. Voting for the People’s Choice Award will be conducted via The Rookies Facebook page beginning the week of June 26th, 2017.
