Gnomon’s loss was the CG industry’s gain last Friday, as the school bade farewell to two talented crops of young artists at its official 2016 Graduation Day — while leading entertainment studios prepared to welcome some award-winning new employees.

From Gnomon to industry success

At the event, each of the students who completed their studies in the two-year Digital Production for Entertainment and three-year Entertainment Design & Digital Production programs during the Winter 2016 or Spring 2016 term was presented with their official certificate and graduating cap.

The graduation address was delivered by legendary concept artist Aaron Sims, whose own design, previous and effects studio has recruited a number of Gnomon alumni over the past decade.

“It was an honor to speak at the Gnomon’s Graduation,” commented Sims. “We had an amazing time meeting and watching the graduates’ reels. We hope to be working with some of the talented graduates very soon.”

Graduation Day wasn’t an entirely formal affair, as this Photo Booth snapshot of Gnomon staff and graduates with guest speaker Aaron Sims (kneeling, bottom left) proves.

Graduates from the Winter 2016 term already have landed work at leading CG facilities, including The Third Floor, Blur Studio and Digital Domain, and we doubt their Spring 2016 peers will be long in following — on top of Gnomon’s current 94% industry placement rate, two of the term’s graduates, Beat Reichenbach and Juliano Yi, were recently voted among the world’s most talented young artists at the prestigious Rookies international student CG awards.

“Gnomon would like to congratulate all of our Winter and Spring graduates,” said Chris Spohn, CEO at Gnomon. “Our staff and instructors are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication you’ve put in during your time spent at the school. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for each and every one of you!”
