It’s no joke when we tout that many of Gnomon’s faculty and instructors are working professionals. Some might say they’re angels for taking time out of their incredibly busy schedules to work with students and pass down their practical experience and extensive knowledge. While they probably aren’t actual benevolent spiritual beings of yore, they sure know how to make them.
Join us on Thursday, April 18th, as Gnomon instructors Beau Janzen, Laura Barbera, Yinglei Yang, and David Stripinis take the stage for an in-depth look at the visual effects in the urban fantasy police procedural Lucifer. Focusing on the final episode of Season 3, our speakers will prove they’re no featherweights when it comes to VFX as they dive deep into the rigging, animating, and texturing behind Lucifer’s wings and the thousands of bloodied feathers attached.
With a much tighter turnaround than big-budget film, the devil is often in the details for projects of this scope, but Janzen, Barbera, Yang, Stripinis, and the team at CoSA VFX didn’t have to wing it—they’ll share the processes and solutions they used to help deliver their visual effects shots, which included an epic fight sequence, within the tight television production schedule. Gain valuable insight into the visual effects production
pipeline for television, which included work in Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Redshift, Houdini, and Nuke, as the team covers their roles on the project and reveals how it all came together to make one hell of a finale.

Laura?s credits include Wallykazam!, Alita: Battle Angel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (television series), I Am Legend, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, among others.
Yinglei YangCG Generalist at Technicolor
Yinglei has an impressive list of television and feature film credits showcasing her talents as a modeler, texture, lighter, rigger, and digital matte painter and brings her professional methodologies as a workflow and pipeline developer and visual storyteller to her instruction here at Gnomon. Her credits include Gotham, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Minority Report, Lucifer, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay ? Part 1, and CSI Los Angeles.
