Generalist, Sonja “Sony” Christoph and Hard Surface Modeler, Joseph “Jay” Machado will reveal their career path stories while sharing the skills and activities that led to their landing and building successful roles at ILM in San Francisco. Recruiters, Lori Beck and Jennifer Coronado, will share the history and background of ILM, from San Francisco to Singapore, and will offer sage advice about where to start, how to be prepared, application tips, plus more priceless information for your journeys in the industry. If you’re embarking on a career in digital production for entertainment and want to learn how to be a productive member of a first-class team, this event will aim to offer inspiration and answers to help you on your way. Professionals will also gain insightful tips about hiring, collaborating, and developing skills for successful careers.
The event is free and open to the public. Entry is by RSVP only, and seating is first-come-first-served. ILM has reserved the right not to Livestream this event, so don’t miss this opportunity to attend in person at the Gnomon campus in Hollywood. The event will not be recorded.

Lori Beck has been with the Lucas companies since 1992, beginning her tenure at LucasArts and transitioning to ILM five years later. In 2005, Lori changed her role from a Coordinator supporting artists to a Recruiter hiring artists. Lori was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She attended Brigham Young University and California State University at Long Beach, and currently resides in Marin County, California.
Sonja Christoph’s first career – as an Emmy award-winning Assistant Director – came to an end when she saw a behind-the-scenes presentation of Star Trek by ILM's Roger Guyett. Intrigued, she enrolled in Gnomon's two-year Digital Production for Entertainment Program. Her CG career began in digital matte painting. She worked at Rhythm & Hues and The Mill before joining ILM's Generalist Department in 2013. She is currently working as a Generalist on Dr. Strange. See her work at sonjachristoph.com.
Jennifer Coronado joined the team at Industrial Light & Magic in September 2000 as a Coordinator before shifting into supporting the President of ILM. Jennifer has held several key positions within ILM including the roles of Talent Manager and Marketing and Development Manager. In the current incarnation of her career Jennifer is the Sr. Manager for ILM’s Digital Model Shop and ILM’s Award Winning Global Art Department.
Jay Machado joined Industrial Light & Magic in 2013 as a Hard Surface Modeler and Texture Painter. A Gnomon Alum, Jay worked as a Character Artist for Santa Monica Studio before joining ILM. Jay is currently responsible for creating pipeline-ready assets for film. His daily work revolves around developing and maintaining efficient assets as well as doing in-shot correction and set dressing. See his work at jaymachado.com
