Visualizing “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” with Halon Entertainment

Join us on Thursday, February 20th at the Dell Stage on Gnomon’s campus for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes!

We are excited to welcome Casey Pyke (Lead Visualization Supervisor) and Wesley Kreiger (Lead VAD Artist/Gnomon graduate ‘20) from Halon Entertainment. The duo will walk through their work on the film, from previs and postvis to using motion capture with Unreal Engine.

This presentation will cover how the Halon team helped bring key sequences to life, focusing on the Human Hunt and Proximus Caesar’s environment, with topics such as:

The Evolution of the Pitch — How the team’s early visualization helped shape the film.

Previs & Virtual Art Department (VAD) Work — Creating real-time assets, working with fur, and using 3D point cloud scans to build digital environments.

The Human Hunt Sequence — Constructing the scene using Unreal Engine, animating zebra crowds, adding digital foliage, and integrating motion capture performances.

Postvis & Finalizing Shots — Supporting editorial with temp VFX, adding character animation, refining environments, and delivering assets for the final film.

If you’re interested in character animation, motion capture, and real-time workflows in film, this event is a great opportunity to see how visualization techniques are shaping major productions. Attendees will be able to ask questions during a live Q&A, connect with other artists, and enjoy complimentary pizza. Campus tours with a Gnomon representative will also be available before the event.

Note: This event will not be livestreamed. An abbreviated version will be shared to the Gnomon YouTube and Twitch channels at a later date. Join us in person to catch all the reels and behind-the-scenes clips!
