Gnomon is launching a BFA to benefit students by providing a broader education, while still supporting our mission to prepare students for careers in the entertainment industry.
What is the difference between the vocational programs and the BFA?
The BFA is a four-year, generalist degree program with specialized electives and general education courses. The 2-year and 3-year vocational programs are certificate granting, and include five areas of emphasized study.
What is the tuition amount for the BFA?
The tuition for the BFA will be roughly equivalent to that of our 3-year, vocational Entertainment Design and Digital Production Program. For tuition information, please view our tuition page .
What is the class capacity for courses in the BFA program?
Gnomon caps classroom size at 18 students for all courses.
Can I complete the BFA in fewer than 4 years?
Potentially, yes. Students who wish to waive their summer break to expedite their program will be considered on a case-by-case basis, based on transfer of credit and satisfactory academic progress.
What is the length of a term within the BFA?
As with all current programs at Gnomon, each term within the BFA will be 10-weeks in duration, plus an additional week for makeup classes. Terms occur in quarters: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. For more details, please view our academic calendar.
Is there a minimum number of units I have to take each term?
Depending on your student status (part time, full time, etc.), the minimum units per term is 6. Keep in mind that enrolling in the minimum number of units per term may affect your ability to complete the program within the mandated amount of time (150% of four years per the Satisfactory Academic Policy).
I would like a degree but I’m more job focused. Will Gnomon still offer placement help?
Of course! Per our mission, we remain committed to preparing students for successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Transfer credit must be determined and awarded prior to enrolling at Gnomon. It is recommended that you speak with an admissions advisor for more information on transferring credit.
Will Gnomon accept AP scores for credit?
Gnomon will consider AP scores of 4 or 5 for credit for general education classes only. AP Studio art credits will not be considered.
If I already have a degree, can I still apply?
