Behind the Scenes of The Sandman: Show-Side VFX Supervision

Ian Markiewicz is a Los Angeles-based VFX Supervisor with more than 10 years of experience designing visual effects for TV and film. Most recently, he served as the VFX Supervisor of Netflix’s DC Comics series The Sandman, which earned a BAFTA nomination for “Best Special, Visual & Graphic Effects” and the No. 1 spot on the streaming platform’s Top 10 list for three consecutive weeks, and the global top 10 for 12 weeks.

His work on the SYFY series Krypton earned him a Visual Effects Society (VES) Award nomination for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode. He also received a VES Award nomination for producing Nike’s virtual reality ad, The Neymar Jr. Effect.

Ian is an expert in bringing sci-fi and supernatural worlds to life through VFX, having contributed to series like CW’s The Flash; Warner Bros.’ The Leftovers; Marvel’s Agent Carter; and films such as M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earthstarring Will and Jaden Smith.

His credits further include the four-time Emmy-winning docuseries Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, which was Emmy-nominated for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects; ABC’s Kevin (Probably) Saves the World; Starz’s Black Sailsseries; and director David O. Russell’s Oscar-winning feature Silver Linings Playbook starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
