Bringing Cinematic FX into Games with Houdini + Unreal

Join us on Thursday, July 3rd at 7:00PM PT for a livestream-only event with FX Supervisor and Technical Art Director Gil Nam Choi!

With over 20 years of experience in visual effects, Gil brings a wealth of knowledge to creating high-end FX. In this presentation, he’ll explore what it takes to bring that same cinematic quality into real-time game engines. Gil has worked at some of the world’s top VFX studios, including Wētā Digital, ILM, Digital Domain, and DNEG.

Gil will break down the artistic and technical challenges of translating blockbuster film FX into real-time environments. Using scenes from Godzilla x Kong, Aquaman, and Shazam!, he’ll explore what defines cinematic FX and how game artists can achieve similar results using tools like Houdini and Unreal Engine.

Viewers will get a detailed look at production workflows, creative problem-solving, and the current limitations of bridging film and interactive media. Whether you're a VFX artist, a real-time generalist, or someone working where film and games intersect, this event offers practical insights and strategies you can apply to your own projects.

RSVP now to receive a reminder and a link to the livestream, and tune in live on Gnomon’s Twitch or YouTube channels!

The Gnomon Workshop has generously offered to provide raffle prizes for this livestream event. Anyone who RSVPs will be automatically entered to win an Annual Subscription to The Gnomon Workshop. We will also be giving away three 1-Month Subscriptions during the stream to viewers who ask a question during our Q&A with Gil! Keep an eye out for a 20% off discount, too.
