Lucas has contributed to major films and series including Dune: Part One and Two, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Deadpool 2, and Venom. Known for bringing to life creatures that are both imaginative and grounded in functional anatomy, he ensures his designs are striking, believable, and serve the needs of the story.
In this presentation, Lucas will share his approach to creature visual development across preproduction and production, highlighting the distinct goals and challenges of each stage. He’ll also discuss some of the more technical aspects of crafting functional, story-driven designs that balance artistry with realism.

Lucas Cuenca is a Creature Designer and Art Director in the film and game industry, known for his ability to bring to life a wide range of imaginative and realistic creatures on the big screen. He has contributed to several high-profile films, helping shape the look and feel of some of today’s most well-known franchises.
Lucas is passionate about combining artistry with functional anatomy, ensuring his designs not only look striking but also feel believable and technically sound. He works closely with directors, producers, and visual effect supervisors to ensure that his designs are not only aesthetically appealing but also serve the needs of the story and characters. Through his creative approach to Creature Visual Development, Lucas has built a career dedicated to making creatures that leave a lasting impression.
